On September 23, 2025, the Wojewódzka Biblioteka Publiczna w Krakowie (Regional Public Library in Kraków) hosted the presentation of Kostiantyn Klymchuk’s novel “Love, War and Other Deviations”, organized by the Fundacja św. Włodzimierza – St. Volodymyr Foundation. The event blended intellectual curiosity with heartfelt emotion and deep reflection on the power of contemporary Ukrainian literature.
Guests were warmly welcomed by Magdalena Pawlaczyk, Head of the Foreign Literature Department, who emphasized the importance of cultural dialogue between Ukraine and Poland. Ukrainian writer, journalist, volunteer, and publisher Kostiantyn Klymchuk then shared his creative journey, revealing the inspirations and real-life experiences behind his detective-social novel.
The book “Love, War and Other Deviations” is a gripping work that intertwines mystery and social realism, portraying Ukraine at a time of trials and transformation. At its core lies the search for meaning, love, and moral integrity amid the chaos of war. Drawing on his years of journalism and tireless volunteer service, Klymchuk depicts how personal and national destinies intersect, while the struggle between truth and betrayal becomes a test of humanity itself.
Written in vivid, expressive, and occasionally ironic language, the novel invites readers to look into the inner world of its characters — people who fight not only the external enemy but also their own fears and doubts. It poses a difficult question: who do we become in wartime, and can love survive where pain reigns?
During the evening, Klymchuk emphasized: “A book is a weapon.” For him, the written word is not merely an art form but a means of defending truth, spreading Ukrainian culture, and reminding the world what Ukraine is fighting for.
The organizers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the author for an inspiring and thought-provoking meeting, wishing him success in his creative and publishing endeavors. Special thanks were extended to the Wojewódzka Biblioteka Publiczna w Krakowie, the Fundacja św. Włodzimierza, and all the guests for their active participation and engaging discussion.
